Redesigning Your Business Website: When to Do It and How to Do It Right

If you’ve noticed a drop in traffic or a lack of engagement, you might be wondering if redesigning your business website is right for you.

Rebranding and redesigning should always be a careful consideration. You want to make sure that you’re redesigning your website for the right reasons.

You also want to make sure that you’re prepared to invest in the right kind of website design—one that will engage your customers and make it easier for them to buy.

Finally, you want to make sure that your website redesign aligns with your branding and communicates what sets your brand apart!

Read on to find out why redesigning your business website might be a good decision and how to make sure you end up with the right website design!

When to Consider Redesigning Your Business Website

With the ever-evolving tech world, it’s important to make sure that your website looks and functions up to date at all times.

If you haven’t redesigned your website within the last five years, it’s time to take a second look.

Additionally, if your website isn’t mobile-friendly, has functional difficulties, or gets complaints regularly, it’s time for a redesign. Your website should be easy to navigate so that your customers don’t have to work to buy from you.

You also want to look at your imagery and copy. Does the copy speak to your target audience? Are the images in alignment with your brand image and story? Does the website look and feel fresh and in tune with your vision for your brand?

If not, it’s time to invest in a redesign!

Redesigning Your Business Website: DIY or Outsource?

Early on in your business, a professional website might not be your top priority. It can be tempting to design your website yourself or enlist the help of a friend.

Hosting websites like Squarespace and Wix make putting together a basic website simple.

However, as your business grows and scales, you need to think about the overall aesthetic of your brand, the capabilities of your website, and the messaging.

Your website is one of the best ways to expand your marketing, attract new leads, and convert them into customers.

A strategic branding agency can create stunning images, a professional layout, and targeted, persuasive copy and messaging that can give you excellent ROI.

Ultimately, the choice depends on your budget and your business needs. But if you want to continue growing and expanding your reach, at some point you’ll want to bring in a professional.

Website Rebrands Done Right

Many of our clients have come to us for website redesigns and rebrands, looking for ways to elevate their branding. Here are some of the redesigns we’ve done and why they were successful:

CTRL Cosmetics: A Sophisticated Website Redesign

CTRL Cosmetics is a beauty and skincare brand for sensitive skin. They are committed to creating affordable, effective products that don’t irritate skin or feel heavy and clinical.

Their website lacked a cohesive feel. The images didn’t flow together and the website didn’t communicate the value of the products. CTRL came to us for a website refresh to give the site a fresh, consistent look and update the messaging.

We faced a challenge with this refresh, because the stark-white products themselves looked like imitations. As a result, we needed to create surreal backgrounds that let the products pop without looking inauthentic.

Using plants, rocks, and flowers, we created visually intriguing backgrounds that brought class and radiance to the images. We also added models to bring in an element of fashion and luxury.

As part of the refresh, we rewrote the website’s copy, highlighting the distinguishing factor of the brand—products created with science and nature specifically catered to sensitive skin. The copy speaks to the target audience, offering them a solution to their frustrations of searching for quality skincare products designed for them.

Zig Travel: Elevating a Travel Website

Zig Travel is a luxury travel brand dedicated to cultivating authentic cultural experiences for its clients. The brand was founded by Elizabeth Kratzig, a former U.S. Olympic sailor who developed a passion for travel, adventure, and rich interactions with other cultures.

The original website evoked a simpler, less sophisticated feel. It didn’t capture the elite atmosphere of the brand or represent the high caliber of experiences Zig Travel provided.

We redesigned the website, incorporating elegant, elevated imagery that inspired thoughts of adventurous, bold travel experiences. We added subtle animation into the website design, bringing in an added element of excitement.

As part of the website rebrand, we also rewrote the copy with the luxury traveler in mind, emphasizing the value of working with Zig Travel and receiving a premiere, custom curated experience.

AbsolutHeat: Adding Elegance and Style to a Beauty Website

HauteHouse brands is a beauty company dedicated to creating innovative and cutting-edge hair products. AbsolutHeat, their sub-brand, creates high-performance professional styling tools.

The brand’s original website was casual and laid-back. It didn’t elicit a high-end feel that spoke to professional hair stylists and reflected the brand’s technologically advanced designs.

HauteHouse wanted to elevate the brand with a website that felt like Marc Jacobs or Kate Spade.

The updated images are upscale, fashionable, and sophisticated, establishing the brand as an authority on beauty and style. The dark colors bring a sense of power and strength, symbolic of the high-performance products. Crisp, smooth typeface replaced the casual rounded typeface of the original site.

This website redesign aligned more with HauteHouse’s vision and appealed to elite stylists and high-end salons.

Theorie: Polishing Up a Beauty Website

Another of HauteHouse’s sub-brands, Theorie, needed a website redesign as well. Theorie combined botanical ingredients with tested scientific formulas to produce high-quality moisturizing hair and body products, along with styling tools.

The brand’s site was too dark and somber. It didn’t reflect the brand’s natural roots or the freshness of the products. We wanted to preserve the high-end feel while bringing in the botanical elements.

AFTER:

The new website design was also more functional—it was responsive and made it easier for customers to shop and purchase.

We brightened up the website and positioned the products on lighter backgrounds so they would pop and catch the eye.
