Often consumers buy product based on packaging. It’s the first contact with the consumer. Consumers are “96% more likely to purchase” if they hold it in their hands says beauty packaging magazine. This year trends towards watercolors and bespoke packaging.
Pantone’s 2016 colors of the year “Rose Quartz” and “Serenity” convey messages of well-being and tranquility. Mintel, a market research firm, predicts more brands may use watercolor designs in packaging in 2016. A couple of companies that are already using watercolors in their packaging are xo Victoria fragrance, award-winning Taylor Swift Incredible Things fragrance and SEPHORA+PANTONE UNIVERSE Modern Watercolors Eyes Palette.
Functional & Bespoke
This year’s Dieline Awards first place winner of the Beauty category went to Marc Jacobs Kiss Pop Color Stick. The Sticks take the shape of a thick color pencil, a departure from the ordinary shaped lipsticks, that is playful yet sophisticated.
Another brand who has taken a similar approach is Stiks. Stiks combines functionally with design. It’s small enough to fit in your back pocket and is easy flip up cap allows your to apply with one hand.
Packaging that is embarrassed when you touch it
“Be gentle with this package, it is very shy.” Naked’s thermochromatic packaging “blushes” when touched. The nude colored packaging is reminiscent of naked body.
